Dulces Galvez App
A mobile ordering application designed exclusively for Dulces Galvez clientele, enabling seamless and hassle-free ordering without the need for direct communication with the company.
Project Overview
The Problem
Dulces Galvez customers are seeking a more streamlined and user-friendly ordering solution, aiming to eliminate the need for direct vendor contact.
The Goal
The primary objective of this project is to architect an application that excels in user-friendliness, responsiveness, and overall utility, catering to both end-users and vendors alike.
The Product
Dulces Galvez Site: Elevating Small Business Expansion in California, USA project represents the seamless integration of an app expansion for a thriving small business, Dulces Galvez, situated in sunny California. My Role
As a UX Designer, I led the end-to-end conceptualization and realization of an app for Dulces Galvez, showcasing a strong commitment to delivering an exceptional user experience.
Responsibilities
Conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, and iterating on designs
Project Duration
Feb 2022 - May 2022
Understanding the user
I conducted a comprehensive research initiative that encompassed both online and in-person interviews, coupled with the creation of empathy maps, all with the aim of gaining a profound understanding of user needs, frustrations, and emotions. Throughout this research, a predominant user demographic emerged, primarily comprised of tech-savvy young individuals who expressed a strong desire for real-time menu updates and a highly responsive order-tracking application.
My interview approach involved asking participants about their experiences with order-tracking apps, investigating the specific challenges they faced, inquiring about their envisioned solutions, and gauging their emotional responses. Initially, I hypothesized that unresponsiveness might be a primary issue, a hypothesis confirmed by the user group. However, my research also unveiled a multifaceted landscape, revealing additional complexities beyond unresponsiveness, including challenges arising from individual preferences and unique interests that sometimes hindered their ability to place accurate orders.
User Pain Points
1.Unresponsive
Application unresponsiveness presents a significant impediment to user engagement and retention.
2. Order Customization
Enabling user customization of their orders should serve as a guiding principle for design decisions, enhancing the overall favorability and user-centricity of the product.
3. UI
Inadequate user interface design can lead to a non-user-friendly experience, thereby impeding smooth navigation for consumers within the app.
4. Order Estimates
We aim to enhance the reliability of order estimates, ensuring consumers have a precise understanding of when their orders will be ready.
Persona and problem statement
Levi Gee, an accomplished Mixologist, seeks an efficient and highly responsive order tracking application to streamline his workflow, ensuring a hassle-free experience in monitoring orders.

Starting the design
Paper wireframes
Thoroughly sketching designs for each screen on paper was a critical step to ensure that the elements integrated into the digital wireframe were thoughtfully tailored to effectively address user pain points. My primary focus was on optimizing the homepage for swift and intuitive navigation, aligning with the overarching goal of providing users with a seamless and efficient experience.
Stars were used to mark the elements of each sketch that would be used in digital wireframes
Digital Wireframes
"As the initial design phase progressed, I diligently anchored the screen designs in invaluable insights gathered from user research feedback."
Usability study findings
I meticulously executed a pair of comprehensive usability studies. The initial study findings served as invaluable guidance during the transition from wireframes to refined mockups. In the subsequent phase, the application of a high-fidelity prototype facilitated an even more detailed examination, pinpointing specific areas within the mockups that required further refinement and optimization.
Round 1 findings
1. Clearly Labeled Buttons
2. Craving Brighter Design Enhancements
3. Imperative for Functional Navigation Buttons
Round 2 findings
1. Demand for a Pickup Option
2. Prioritization of Cart Visibility
3. Desire for Multi-Item Selection"
Mock ups
In the initial design iterations, we included a quantity option, but it lacked visual appeal and utilized placeholder text (lorem ipsum). Subsequently, I undertook a refinement process to enhance the visual aesthetics of the quantity option and ensure a more polished presentation.
The results of the second usability study unveiled notable user frustration with the 'Your Order' page. In response, I undertook a strategic redesign effort aimed at enhancing user experience. This included replacing placeholder text with meaningful content, incorporating additional interactive elements, and introducing a convenient 'pickup' option to streamline the user journey.
Accessibility considerations
Color
The color palette was thoughtfully curated, taking into account the company's primary branding colors and placing a strong emphasis on meeting accessibility standards.
2. Icon
The inclusion of the accessibility icon was implemented to enhance user experience and ensure inclusivity for individuals with accessibility needs.
3. Nutritional
We integrated nutritional information to enhance the user experience by providing comprehensive ingredient details for each item.
Redefined designs
High-Fidelity protoype
The high-fidelity design exhibits refined user flows for ordering and checkout processes on the Dulces Galvez platform, aligning seamlessly with user requirements, including the integration of a convenient pick-up option.
Going Forward
Takeaways
Impact
The application effectively fostered a sense of user engagement by actively acknowledging and incorporating their feedback. Users attested to its exceptional usability, ranking it as one of the most user-friendly ordering applications they have encountered in quite some time.
What i learned
During my tenure at Dulces Galvez, I gained invaluable insights into the iterative design process. I came to appreciate that the initial design concepts serve as the foundation for a broader vision. These insights were significantly shaped by rigorous usability studies and constructive user feedback, both of which played pivotal roles in driving meaningful refinements and enhancements to the app's user experience.
Next steps
1.I will present my work to the company owner to elicit her feedback and gather insights into any potential enhancements or modifications she may wish to incorporate.
2.Contact an engineer.
3.Release it to the Dulces Galvez customers
